Background and aim: Due to the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among students and the threat to their health, the effect of a course of corrective exercises on musculoskeletal disorders in male students was discussed in this article.

Methods: This research was an applied study in terms of descriptive-analytical method and its data collection was done by the field method. The statistical population of the study was all students in Mashhad in 1400 who were randomly selected from a number of schools. The samples of this study consisted of students who had musculoskeletal disorders and were randomly divided into two groups of intervention and control. The correction protocol for the intervention group was performed three days a week for 45 to 90 minutes for 8 consecutive weeks in the student sports club.

Results: The results showed that the highest frequency of musculoskeletal problems was observed in the neck (48.56%), knees and ankles (42.38%), back (35.69%), and lumbar (33.92%), respectively. Corrective exercises had a significant effect on the musculoskeletal disorders of the intervention group in the neck (P = 0.05 and Z = 3.31), lumbar (P = 0.05 and Z = 2.27), shoulder (P = 0.05 and Z = 3.04), and wrist area (P = 0.05 and Z = 3.81). No change was observed in the control group.

Conclusion: Correctional exercises during 8 weeks with and without emphasis on active self-correction affect the musculoskeletal status of students.

Effect of Comprehensive and Local Corrective Movements in Correcting Flat Foot Deformities in 12-8 Years Old Boys

Background and aim: A flat foot is one of the most common skeletal disorders that affect the function of the foot. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of two types of corrective exercise programs with a comprehensive and localized approach in correcting flat foot deformities in adolescents.

Methods: The statistical population consisted of adolescent male students in Mashhad. Using cluster sampling, 75 students aged 11 to 12 years, who had simultaneously flat feet, crossed knees, and internal rotation of the knee were purposefully selected. They were randomly divided into three experimental groups: local exercises (n = 25), comprehensive (n = 25), and control (n = 25). The severity of flat feet was measured by the navicular bone loss test (pre-test). The experimental groups performed local and comprehensive correction programs for 6 weeks.

Results: The results showed that local corrective exercises and comprehensive corrective exercises have a significant effect on correcting flat foot deformities. There was also a significant difference between the effect of local and comprehensive exercises in correcting flat foot deformities and the effect of comprehensive exercises was greater.

Conclusion: It is concluded that for the treatment of plantar fasciitis, both local corrective exercises and comprehensive corrective exercises can be used as effective training methods and comprehensive corrective exercises have an advantage over local corrective exercises.

The Effect of FIFA + 11 Kids’ Injury Prevention Program on Knee Joint Proprioception of Adolescent Football Players

Background and aim: Knee joint injury is known to be the most common injury among adolescent football players. Since proprioception is involved in muscle reflexes, stability of joint dynamics, and movement planning for neuromuscular control, its decreased accuracy can be identified as an internal risk factor. The aim of study was to investigate the effect of fourteen weeks of FIFA + 11 kids’ injury prevention program on knee proprioception of adolescent soccer players.

Methods: The statistical population of the present study consisted of 48 adolescent football players who were selected as available and then randomly divided into experimental and control groups and the knee proprioception of the players was measured at 30- and 60-degree angles. The experimental group performed a +11 Kids program for fourteen weeks (three sessions per week) while the control group maintained their normal warm-up method. Combined analysis of variance was used to analyze the data.

Results: According to the results, the mean error of reconstruction of knee joint angles in the experimental group decreased after performing the +11 Kids program (P < 0.05), but no difference was found in the control group (P > 0.05). In addition, there was observed a significant difference between the two groups after the intervention program (P < 0.05).

Conclusion: It is concluded that the +11 Kids program can improve the proprioception of knee joints in adolescent football players.

The Effect of Eight Weeks of Manual Therapy on Quality of Life in Women with Chronic Non-Specific Back Pain

Background and aim: Back pain or low back pain is the most common musculoskeletal complication. About 50 to 80% of normal people experience low back pain during their lifetime, and about 80% of spinal problems occur in the lower back. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of eight weeks of manual therapy on quality of life in women with chronic non-specific back pain.

Methods: In this clinical trial study, 50 women between 30 and 55 years old with chronic non-specialized low back pain were randomly selected and divided into two experimental groups of manual therapy with mean age (38.16±7.67), and a control group with mean age (38±7.00). The control group was given only low back pain training program and the experimental group addition training program received manual treatment for 8 weeks and 1 session per week. The measured quality of life of the subjects was measured in two stages before eight weeks for pre-test and after eight weeks for post-test.

Results: The results showed that intervention was effective in improving quality of life, a statistically significant difference was observed between the experimental and control groups (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: In general, the results of the present study showed that quality of life in women with chronic low back pain after eight weeks of manual consisting of one sessions of treatment during eight weeks and once a week improves.

Comparison of the Effect of One Bout of Aerobic Exercise on Endothelium Function by FMD Method in and Postmenopausal Women

Background and aim: Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death of women in developed countries; every year 1 out of every 3 women dies due to cardiovascular disease. In general, menopause is associated with an increase in the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases, so this increase in risk starts in the years before menopause and worsens until after menopause. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of a bout of aerobic activity on endothelium function using the FMD method in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women.

Methods: Thirty perimenopausal and postmenopausal women without any history of exercise and suffering from any kind of cardiovascular disease were divided into perimenopausal (N=15) and postmenopausal (N=15) groups. The function of vascular endothelium was measured by FMD method, 30 minutes before and after physical activity by Doppler ultrasonography machine and by an expert.

Results: The independent t-test results show that there is a significant difference in vascular function between perimenopausal and postmenopausal women before and after 30 minutes of aerobic activity (P > 0.05).

Conclusion: The data obtained from FMD indicate better vascular function in perimenopausal women.

Comparison of Body Composition and Physical Fitness of Different Blood Groups in Young Wrestlers

Background and aim: Knowing about the level of physical fitness and physical condition of wrestlers is an important and primary principle in talent identification, training planning, and success in professional sports. Therefore, the aim of this research was to compare the body composition and some physical fitness factors of different blood groups in the young wrestlers of Ardabil city. The current research is semi-experimental and the statistical population consisted of 40 young wrestlers from Ardabil city with 4 blood groups (A, B, AB, O) with positive RH.

Methods: After receiving the consent form from the subjects, the wrestlers went to the laboratory of Ardabil medical centers to determine the blood group and evaluate body fat percentage, BMI, the variables of endurance and muscle strength, speed, agility and anaerobic capacity, and maximum oxygen consumption. The statistical analysis was carried out at a significance level of 0.05 using SPSS22 software.

Results: The results showed that the variables have significant differences among the four blood group subjects (P > 0.05) and also, the results showed that O blood group, in all variables, was at a higher level than other groups, and AB group is the weakest blood group in wrestlers.

Conclusion: The variables of body composition and physical fitness of different blood groups in young wrestlers have significant differences.

Abstract

 

Background and aim: Humans face many pressures in their daily life. Adolescence is one of the sensitive periods of every person. This period is the time of discovery or awareness of cultural-spiritual values, the period of contradictions and conflicts, his imagination and dreams. Therefore, the aim of the current research was the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral stress management training on anger, depression and anxiety control skills in martial arts beginners of the second year of high school.

Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental type. The implementation method was as follows: 50 male martial arts subjects (Taekwondo, Judo and Wushu) were asked to complete questionnaires related to anger, depression and anxiety control as a pre-test, then the experimental group under training. Cognitive-behavioral stress management was performed during 10 sessions (the control group did not receive any training). The statistical analysis of the current research was done using multivariate analysis of covariance, and using spss software.

Results: The results of the present study showed that the cognitive-behavioral stress management training in the experimental group led to a significant difference in the variable of anger and anxiety control skills (P<0.05). Also, the results indicate that cognitive behavioral stress management training in the experimental group did not lead to a significant difference between the scores of the experimental and control groups in the depression variable (P=0.87).

Conclusion: Based on the present research, it seems that cognitive-behavioral stress management training has improved the anger and anxiety control skills of martial arts teenagers.
